question about diy speakers
« on: 26 Oct 2003, 08:59 pm »
I have a random queston about building your own speakers... would it be smart/even possible to use something like the adire tumult 15" driver with a midrange driver and a high quality tweeter like the scan-speak like the 9900?  just curious...

moderator, please move this post to the lab. thanks.

I don't know those particular drivers but I know adire and I know scanspeak..If you chose the right mid I am sure you'd have a winner! You might want to post more questions in the lab there are many successful designers here.

With the tumult I think it would make more sense to approach it as a two-way satelite plus sub, rather than a three way. I don't know where the breakup starts on the tumult but it's probably not very high, so using a bass-mid sealed and the tumult under that would be the approach I'd be looking at.

Yeah im not sure why you would use a 15" for a woofer realllllly... more of a subwoofer driver and even then their 12" shiva does a 'better' job of that....

the 9900 is supposed to be one of the best tweeters you can get and i would look at matching that with the 18w/8531g00 for midrange.  Im personally going to use that combination probably with an 8" for the bass... and already have a 12" shiva sub.
