Why oh Why hasn't Hollywood seized the opportunity to "re-make" HG Wells War of the Worlds???

I mean remaking some of the tripe that's out there and here this "Classic" stands just "ripe and ready" to be redone.

Jeff Wayne's musical rendition could alo be redone to add some incredible musical scores.

With today's Cinematic abilities, I can only imagine what a spectacular film this could be.

They did??? :?

I'm looking for the correct period and country, not Gene Barry (Bat Masterson/Burke's Law) in Los Angeles.

Maybe  F.F Coppola could do the same treatment he did to Dracula.

I have the original on Laser Disc and even a bad as it is, I place it in a list of re-makes I would like to see:

1) War of the Worlds (with Jeff Waynes album used as a basis for the soundtrack)
2) Forbiden Planet  (Krell)
3) The Day the Earth Stood Still (Klatu Murada Nictu [sp])
