I was informed of their existance 3 weeks ago.

But I've yet to see one.

I like the idea as no other banana (at least that I've ever found) was 100% copper base. All were mixed with brass.

Lucky for me I've yet to get decent speaker cables made.

I have received 8 samples of the Eichman Bayonets. I will try them out on some cable shortly.

I have just played with them a little bit. They ARE a very tight fit on some binding posts. There may be a bit of a problem with the metal sleeve sliding down the plastic. I really won't know for sure until I install them on cables.

They are a bit on the expensive side. It looks like they will sell for roughly $10.00 each.

How does that price compare with WBT or Furutech plugs?

And which posts have you found them to be a bit tight on?

I haven't seen the Eichmann's yet, but for banana type plugs, my favorites are the Nordost Z-plug.

I have used these when building all of my recent speaker cables. Because of the design, they appear to get more actual surface contact than any other brand that I know of. Because the actual contact need to be compressed to fit into the speaker binding post. when installed the entire exterior of the "plug" makes contact with the inside of the speaker post.

Also, this is the only banana that I know of that works with the "British" type speaker binding post that has a protrusion in the middle. They worked fine with my previous Arcam Alpha 10, even though many people say banana can't work with this type speaker binding post. Because the Z-plug is hollow and open on the leading edge, it fits just fine over that idiotic protrusion in the "brit" binding post.

I pay my local dealer $6 or $8 (not sure which) each for the plugs. I've been VERY happy with them.

Sorry, off original topic, but possible useful for someone wanting to build some cables..

Enjoy,

TIC

Bubba, The WBT angled plugs sell for around $60.00 for four. The WBT Topline straight banana is $100.00 for four. The Furutech would be around $80.00. The Cardas double banana are $42.00 for four or around $10.00. each banana.

The Eichman is going to retail for $50.00 for 4 according to the latest e-mail I received from them.

Here is whst they look like on the inside:

For the first run they have sent out, only soldering is suggested. The next run will be a bit heavier duty so you can crimp (cold weld)

I'd be afraid I'd break them.   They need to learn how to make the non conductive part out of ceramic or something harder than plastic.

I have had no problems if you insert the Eichmann into a female RCA socket before soldering. I forgot to do it once, and made a mess.
Should be the same with the bananas.

For soldering the Bayonets, Eichman suggests you remove the metal part from the plastic, solder and then put it all back together.

You do need a bit more heat to attatch a 14 - 12 AWG wire than the 24 awg wire used in some interconnects :D
