question that i have thought about over the years re cones or spikes on stands. Isnt there a tipping issue?
I suppose there is. How much more (if any) than Blu-Tack and the like is anyone's guess.
FWIW, my stand-mounted speakers have been in my living room for 5 years now, and the left speaker is literally beside the front door. Though it has obviously received the occasional bump, to my knowledge it has never been seriously near to falling off the stand or tipping over. Not bad considering the household (myself, my wife, one
incredibly clumsy 10-year old boy, 3 cats and a hairy rat that doubles as a dog).
All of which is to say I find my speakers quite stable on stands with spikes. My wife was terrified for the first year; the speakers are heavy, and could cause serious injury if a child were to knock one down. But though the weight creates a potential danger, I believe it also serves as a stabilizing force. Regardless, the end result is my wife doesn't worry about them any more.
