Has anyone here heard the Swan - M1.2?  Looks like a pretty fair price on A-gon if they're nice speakers.

I have the Swans M1 and had them modified by Dan Wright.  They are mind blowing little speakers!  The picture in the Audiogon home page is that of the M1, not the 1.2.  I would not consider the 1.2 as I'm into near field and I find the 1.2 to be a compromised version of the M1: cabinet shape, finish, soundstage caoabilities and most likely less midrange performance in exchange for a larger woofer and a better tweeter.  My litle modded Swans have a  (-3 dB) point around 40-45 Hz.

jeez, what a geek!  talk about shooting myself in the foot!     i emailed jon lane, the usa distributor for swan, about the auction he presently has running, on another pair of m1.2's he dug up outta his warehouse.  (this auction has awreddy reached my asking price):

http://cgi.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/auc.pl?spkrmoni&1067044361

his ad sez these are wood, so i queried him if these were really wood, or the same winyl finish that i ended up with.  he said these are in fact a wood veneer (not the solid hardwood per the auction - he yust told me he's gonna issue a correction to the ad.)  he said that mine have to be veneer also - he's never seen m1.2's imported w/winyl.  when i told him how smooth the finish is, he agreed - his are the same way, but he said mine gotta be wood - in fact, it's the winyl w/pseudo-texture, & that the swans/hi-vi speakers veneers are polished smooth as glass.

so, all this time, i've been trying to sell my real-wood-veneered speakers, as winyl-clad!?!   :|   well, mebbe that's why i haven't been able to move 'em - perhaps i will have better luck, now!   :o

re: francisco's swan's, i imagine they *are* awesome, & i'd really like to hear them - the hi-vi drivers are certainly sweet.  if someone went thru the m1.2's x-overs & replaced the parts w/audiophile-grade caps, inductors, etc, i'm sure these would also be smokin'.  and, w/their 90db/1w efficiency, they're an easy load for amps...

I have personally heard PA's modified M-1's on several occasions.  I don't know what they sounded like before modification, but after the mod they sound unbelievably great.  Like 20K plus speakers!  I realize you have to hear it in order to believe it.  The M-1's are the only Swans I've ever heard.
Good luck…
