Help! EAC keeps freezing my computer.
« on: 27 May 2008, 10:26 pm »
EAC has always functioned on my pc correctly until recently, when it freezes the screen as the computer cycles into its' energy saving mode. I think this is when it locks up but I'm not sure. Also if I'm running the Squeezebox and Slimserver, the computer can't handle all the demands and proceeds to freeze and I must reboot it. :( My HP computer is about 4 years old.

I had similar experience with my 3+ years HP desktop a couple months ago ie: programs including EAC, Slimserver..etc started to freeze.  I added 1.5 Gb of ram memory & so far it's working well.

If it was working and now is not, you likely have picked up stray processes running in the background eating your memory/cpu.  If you know what you're doing, you can go in and remove them.  If not and you want the easier way out, I'll agree that adding some RAM is a good idea.  I'd also check to make sure you have plenty of virtual ram set up.

You might also want to DL and run AdAware and Spybot Search and Destroy (be careful, don't install something called just Spybot)

Well....I just ran Spybot Search and Destroy and Pest Patrol. PP found 3 items that I deleted, so this evening I'll run EAC again and see what happens. On one of my computer crashes all of my bookmarks were deleted. Perhaps it time for a computer upgrade; prices are fairly low now. :)
