« on: 23 May 2008, 06:05 am »
any one tried kci silkworms, gabriel gold revelation, jade vermeil gold or other gold base interconnect? how do you compare them? which one is better in your opinion and why? i would like to tame by abit bright systems.

Not to start war or something, i just need some comparison the cables, as i do not have the pleasure to be able to try cables and have the money back guarantees offers. i live in Asia and shipping the package back and forth would cost fortune. thx

I have Jade Vermeil Dig IC and Audio Metallurgy Dig IC and standard balanced IC's.  I prefer gold over silver as it warms up the sound but still delivers bass well.  Warm to me means the midrange is meatier and has more texture.  I prefer the GA-0 cables to the Jade.  I would have gold SC's as well if I could afford them.  Maybe next year.

Overall I like silver for its snap and detail but have moved to gold wherever I can to get that midrange tone I prefer w/o losing any bass.  I have not done any serious comparison between the Vermeil and GA-0 dig cables.  But generally I like what the Audio Metallurgy folks have done.  Both companies are fantastic to deal with.

I've owned KCI Silkworm, Jade Vermeil, and Gabriel revelations...the KCI are still here.  No cable is perfect, but the Silkworm is really exceptional in my system and to my ears, and it's across the board.  Solid and tuneful low end, mids that are emotional and beautiful, and a clean extended top end without glare.  That John is such a good guy to work with is just a bonus.

Haven't heard the AM, but Pete has a good ear so might be worthwhile to chat him up about those.......

Dude, there's no such thing as "assurance" especially when it comes to cables. I have not met two persons who share exactly the same taste.

The only "assurance" is that John at KCI offers 30 days money back guarantee. You just have to make sure that the 30 days exclude the time it takes to ship the cables.

I used to live in Asia so I understand your pain.

So Barry, how do you REALLY feel?   :icon_surprised:

But you're right about preferences.  In order not to develop ulcers over this, here is my sweeping generalization, that so far has rung true:

Copper sounds like copper

Silver sounds like silver

Gold sounds like gold

Meaning: just about any standard cable (not accounting for unique geometries) from different manufacturers will sound so close it may be exasperating and expensive to try them all to be sure in yurown system.  How do I know this?  I've tried many and only a few times have I put them on my keep list.  For copper it's Reality, for silver it's Ridge Street Audio [Poiemas], for Gold so far it is Audio Metallurgy.  Someday I might be able to afford KCI's, but for now I found I like gold over all else and am gong that route.  And I have Poiema SC's and Zu Ibis (also silver) SC's in competition right now as an FYI (because gold SC's are so darned expensive!!).

Certainly not scientific, but even I have to cut bait and actually fish once in a while.

Pete, the Metallurgy is a "gold plated wire", do you know what material is used for the core wire?

GA-0s are:
Quote
The wire itself is a 20-gauge, gold alloy consisting of gold, copper, and silver metals combined into an alloy, which is then plated with pure 24-karat gold. The gold-alloy wire is sent out for a cryogenic treatment process prior to its assembly. The GA-0’s are supplied with locking WBT Midline RCA connectors, which can be upgraded to WBT Topline Nextgen RCA’s (WBT-0110Cu) for $55. Audio Metallurgy is a WBT dealer and can terminate their cables with any WBT connectors the customer specifies for reasonable fees. A balanced version of the Zero’s is available with Neutrik XLR connectors. The price of a 1-meter pair is $415. Both shorter and lon
