Bryston 1B and 2B
« on: 20 May 2008, 03:36 am »
I recently retired my 1B/2B combo from around 1985. They served me well until I finally moved to a Jeff Rowland Design Group Continuum 500 integrated amp.

Other than some noise in Phono 1 everything still works well. (I used Phono 2). Is there a market for these loyal old dogs? I hate to just put them into the closet when someone else might get at least a few more years out of them.

What's a fair price range? I feel like they don't owe me a thing, but I want to pass them along at a fair price. I'd put their condition at 7 out of 10, BUT they're REAL OLD and I left on for most of 23-years (which is probably a good thing). So, the rating is based on physical appearance and the known fact that Phono 1 is noisy. They sound great and held up well in comparison to the Conrad Johnson and the new JRDG amp. You know, I'm chasing the last few percentiles of resolution and paying a lot more for that incremental improvement.

Thanks in advance,  8)

There's a market for anything if you look hard enough.  Bryston gear sells and holds its value very well due to Bryston's famed build and sound quality.  Exactly how much you should sell it for is something you'll have to do more research on.

A great place to sell (and buy) used gear is Audiogon.  Its mainly audiophiles buying and selling their gear.  For the most part, they know what they're looking for and what to expect.  I'm sure someone over there would buy it to use as a second system, for a family member, etc.  Audiogon also has a Blue Book that helps set pricing, but it'll cost $40 per year (I believe).  I've sold a few things there without using the blue book.  I priced my gear according to what others were changing - cheaper than stuff in better condition, and more than stuff in worse condition.  With your gear that may not be possible due to very few of them are being sold.

Here's a link to Audiogon -
