two things guys . . .
« on: 18 May 2008, 01:30 pm »
FIRST - I'm selling my Jolida 302B RC.  50 wpc EL34 Integrated.  In great shape, asking 700, but am willing to dicker.  Comes with extra tubes, tube dampers, all original packing, manual, remote, power cord, etc.

If you've been following my system upgrade, you know I don't need this anymore.  It's an 8 or 9 outta 10.  Two years old and will drive most any speaker out there.  Great unit.

SECOND . . .  I'm trying to locate the source of a ground loop but am not having any luck.  Tried turning off all the flourescents, chargers around the house.  Tried using the cheater plug/s, tried plugging into different circuits around the house, nothing.  Is there a product out there that will help me with this?  I had success with a ground loop eliminator for my cable TV setup a couple years back that you plugged the cable into one end and that eliminated it.

Have any of you had any luck with the ebtech humx voltage hum eliminator?

Hi Kirch,

I am not 100% sure about your situation but if you are running TV cable, I would recommend disconnecting ANYTHING that is connected to you TV from your system.

I woudl run only you amp, speakers and CD player. If you have a DVD player connected to the system, disconnect that as well or at least the video cable from it.

99% of the time, TV cable causes noise in tube system.

My apologies if this is not the situation.

Nope, this is just a music system.  I have satellite, but two floors up and not connected to this one at all.  Just audio components.

Thanks!

Sounds like a job for Power Man  :weights:  (Chris from BPT)(he should wear a cape and tights with BPT plastered across his chest....on second thought...the visual of that wasn't very pretty...never mind)

I fought the same problem. Chris brought over his noise sniffer, a nifty Fluke harmonics meter/recorder and one of his BPT conditioners. We sniffed the noise, probed the harmonics, listened then plugged in his BPT the sniffed and probed again and the noise was cured. Be prepared to buy the BPT though. Once you hear it in your system (forget about it eliminating the noise), you won't want to live without it. Just ask Mark (Blackmore), he had the same issues as me and now you.

I bought the 2.0 ultimate (I think).

Thats one thing about tube amps, if you've got crap riding your mains (most times you aren't generating the noise in your own house, its just pollution on the grid), you hear it. The way Chris cleans it up is with a top quality Plitron isolation transformer....that and a few other noise reducing widgets in his circuit.

I've tried (and own) some pretty decent passive power filters but the only thing that actually got rid of the crap I was hearing was Chris' unit. Like I said, its not just getting rid of the noise, it makes a fairly dramatic overall improvement in your system. Its worth giving one a listen.
