Scarlett don't quit your day job

Just came across Scarlett Johansson's first album on imeem
http://www.imeem.com/scarlettjohansson

Johansson's album is a compilation of singer and actor Tom Waits' material from several albums, including Bone Machine and Alice.

Maybe I will like it more after a few more listens, it took William Shatner a few albums to find his groove.

Its terrible.  If you need that much effect on your voice you should not be singing.

I heard a few clips of it on Howard Stern a few weeks ago and it is truly unlistenable. Horrible stuff.

And what is up with the cover art?  It looks like one of those examples from "worst album cover" websites...you know, the ones with Millie Jackson, Ken By Request Only, Let Me Touch Him, Country Church, Joyce.  I mean, Scarlett is or can be absolutely smokin' hot, and the powers that be decide to have her on her death bed, through a knothole?  :o   And I'm clearly not a Tom Waits historian, but hardly Waits-ian either.

Some websites have this cd rated highly, but samples I've heard are dreadful.

with assets like ms j, im not worry about her vocal styles.  Is it just me or everytime i see a "project" like this i have nightmarish flashbacks to eddie murphy doing king doofus in "party all the time" which imho has the honor being both truly a horrible song with an equally horrible video.

She's got good genes all right!  I don't know from Tom Waits, but the samples didn't make me cringe, it just wasn't my thing.  And as far as actor\musician crossovers, it could be much worse.

Saw the video for "Falling Down"  my gawd this is dreadful music.  Don't know if I was expecting something different but it is flat out horrible  and depressing.

I think she's more than a little taken with herself now.

She's believing the hype that she's a great artist extends to all areas of artistry.  Tain't so

I guess if I were going to start a singing career,
I'd try a little less ambitious project than covering
the Tom Waits catalog.....
