IRIAA Question
« on: 15 May 2008, 05:05 am »
I have several SACDs that are SACD only, i.e. there's no two-channel layer. This means that I can't rip them to my hard disc using a conventional CD ROM drive. The best solution I can think of is to connect the L and R analogue outs from the SACD player to an IRIAA Filter, connect the IRIAA to a Ripper, and then to my hard disc via the Ripper's USB.

I already have a Ripper and the IRIAA is a modestly priced kit that will come in handy from time to time. Here's my question: the IRIAA has 50 and 600 ohm inputs and -40 dB and -60 dB outputs. Forgive my ignorance, but what are the implications of these? Which does one use when? Thanks,

Martyn

You can almost always use the 50 ohm inputs.  Especially with an SACD player.  The 600 ohm in an optional input for very old audio generators - if you're doing reference level plots of equalization accuracy.

The -40dB and -60dB outputs are for MM and MC phonostages respectively.  You would use the -40dB for a RIPPER.
