Hey!

Ed, it is a photography technique. It is actually darker in reality. But still here in NYC the surrounding is always brighter than in the suburb or country side because of all the street lights and from buildings . That's why you see less stars in the sky here :?

Yeah, after the shots the neighbors came out and thought that an UFO had landed.

Hey!

A bit on technical side. Yes, tripod were used due to long exposure... for the camera not me.

ooheadsoo, the camera is the Sony A700 with Sony's Zeiss 16-80mm f3.5-4.5 zoom... this zoom is not full frame. The base exposure was 30 Sec. at f4.5. The ISO used was 400 of which kept the noise well under control.

Take care,
Buddy :thumb:

That's great low noise performance!  My long exposures are always very noisy.

Use a tripod = gain is a non-factor (unless motion is meant to be captured in a certain way) = low noise due to low ISO or gain settings.  Some cameras though, no matter what, just don't seem to hold up well to long exposures regardless of gain settings.

It seems to be a moderate problem on my camera.  With exposures longer than 60 seconds, naturally, I use a tripod.  Looking back on the one recent (iso 400, 71 seconds) long exposure I kept, I guess the noise isn't as bad as I remembered it being, but it is still apparent in the sky.  The A700 looks pretty clean, here.

You can hold a camera steady for 50 seconds?  Damn, you're good! I crap out at around 1/15th! :P

Yes, on an average day, I can do about 50 seconds.  On those rare special really good days, I can squeeze in about 59.9 seconds, but 60 seconds is my limit.  I've never had a shot come out at 60 seconds, hand held.

I will post one of my hand held 59.9 second shots of my reflection in a mirror - if I can just get this EXIF editor to work...

Hey!

    Hand held at 50sec? Really?

I can't even do that even with the help of the image stabilizer in my camera turned on :o

Back before I had image stabilizer I remembered that I could hand held down to 1/8sec and with pretty much with lens focal length up to 70mm... anything longer than that is another story  :icon_lol:

Great picture... the blue light looks surreal.  It would be interesting to compare this to another night time shot when everything is dry.

Hey!

Thanks, I was thinking about that also. Last night I saw more windows with light on and I like the look. I will wait for night with more windows lite up. :D
