Is there some way to easily reset all of the settings on a SP1.7 to 'factory defaults' by,say, remote commands, or something?

Yeah, doesn't seem to work first few times through.....When I go in the info for speaker distances, etc, is all still intact.

I'm wondering if there is something wierd with my unit. I actually changed the sub settings on my system last night, but everytime I go back in, the sub is set back up again......

James, is there info on the Bryston site about how to update/reinstall the operating software?

Thanks for the software James.

Unfortunately, I have no serial cable around (all USB)! I checked around and the only one I can find is at Futureshop for almost $50 :(

Any way that some time tomorrow you can check with Mike to see if indded Code 254 should be right?? As well, is there a way to reset something by popping the top since Code 254 doesn't seem to reset my setting using the remote.

Thanks

Keith

But it doesn't seem to reset my unit. For example, speaker distances, etc all remain at my current settings, so it appears nothing is changing.

Hi Keith,

Yes I believe there is a reset button on the main circuit board as well.  I will check with Mike tomorrow.

Hi James;

To reset to defaults, the code is '254'.  The button on the inside doesn't reset to defaults, just reboots; same as turning off and on again.

'254' doesn't seem to work for me...I'll try again this evening. As well, I got a DB9 cable from work so I'll attempt the software upgrade as well.

Hi Keith,

Are you hitting the CODE button before you enter the 254 digits?

james

Yeah. For example, if I do the "hold" code button and '792', I can turn the backlight on and off on the remote.

But, when I hit the code button once (which causes the red led on the remote to stay on) and then type in 254, I get one blink of the led and nothing seems to be changing on the unit. I'm assuming that stuff like speaker distance, etc, would be reset by going back to factory defaults, correct?

I have a question, though...after I hit code (and the red led on the remote stays on), then type in '254', how many times should the red led 'blink' to acknowledge that it's accepted the command? Once, or more than once?

Hi Keith,

The light just stays on. Do not hold code button just push it once and then enter the code.
I just tried it on mine at home and it work fine.  Make sure your in fact hitting 254.

No, I don't hold the code button when trying to enter '254'. I just hit it once and the light stays on. I will try again this evening. I'm at work now. I'm hitting the 'DTS' "DIG' & 'SURR' buttons after I hit code (if memory serves me correct). Think that's '254', correct?

Still no go on the reset using the remote control.

As well, I am trying to update the software, but am having trouble as well. The instructions say to hold in on the 'CD' & 'Surround' buttons on the front panel while powering on and the words "BOOTLOADER" will appear on the SP1.7. My SP1.7 will not go into this mode (and hence, the BOOTLOADER menu does not appear in the Hyper-terminal.

Silly question, is the SP1.7 mode same as SP2 (ie, holding in on the CD and Surround buttons while powering on)? I'm really starting to think there is something not right with my unit.

It shouldn't be this hard, right :?
