Looking for new biwire cables and IC's
« on: 30 Apr 2008, 10:15 pm »
I would like to biwire my new Dali Helicon 800 speakers. Right now I have Reality Cables SC's and IC's. I have enjoyed the sound but am growing tired of the stiffness of them and the color stands out like a sore thumb in my room. I thought this might be an opportunity to try something new. I don't want to spend a ton of money but also don't want to go down in sound quality. Any suggestions?

I didn't believe it until I heard them with my own ears in my own system.

I am not claiming that they are the best speaker cables on the market but they are great sounding cables at almost no cost.

I am using this wire for speaker cable only.  I cannot comment on them as interconnects but the reviewer found they performed best as speaker cable.

I recently brought some wire over to a buddy and it displaced all his Audioquest speaker cables.

I am using bare wire and it is sounding sweet.  Let them run for 100 hrs or so before passing final judgement.

It has made me really question the big $$$ speaker cables I have owned.

Worth a try IMHO.

Not much to DIYing the White Lightnings.  Buy the cord, cut off the ends, cut to length needed, twist two conductors together (same on both ends) and connect to speakers and amp.

I like matching IC's and SC's, so I was mainly referring to DIY'ing the IC's.

Sounds like some positive comments on the MAC cable thread, so I may give those a try. Also interested in the Audio Art cables.

I recommend Blue Jeans Cable (www.bluejeanscable.com) or Anti-cables (www.anticables.com) for interconnects and Signal Cable (www.signalcable.com) for the Bi-wire speaker cables. Check out their sites and see what you think. All high value products in my opinion. Prelude Audio (www.preludeaudio.com) also has a good high value selection of audio products.

I use Synergistic Tesla Accelerator on my Helicon 400's and 200 and LUV it! I used to use some Nordost cables, I much prefer the Synergistic

I was an early adherant of the White Lightning speaker cables.  At first I thought they were the greatest thing since sliced bread but found that they introduced high frequency resonances to my systems that took me a while to discover them as the cause.  I actually replaced a terrific phono cartridge w/ an even pricier one thinking it was the culprit.
I have since been using (at Louis Chochos' suggestion) DNM Reson speaker cables purchased from Creston Funk @ Concert Sound in Texas (512-236-9100)  These are solid core 18 AWG which resemble Nordost construction w/ a webbing between 4 highly separated conductors.  The idea is to separate them into pairs as little as necessary.  They were just under $200 delivered w/ mini bananas installed.  I've been very pleased w/ them however I read a review by Art Dudley recently in which he was trying out some DNM Reson Electronics and the speaker cables were included.  While I generally find his writing quite entertaining, he found these cables (I think they are called "Precision") to be "too smooth"  which I don't actually understand.  Earlier versions were criticized for being bass shy but that doesn't seem to apply to these.
Good luck.

Both are great and won't break the bank. Anti Cable speaker wire and Cat Cables Silver KingKats. The Silver Kingkats blew my Blue Jeans out of the water.

Once you go JPS, you never go back! Art Dudley's review is 100% accurate, even though it sounds like land of milk and honey hype. They have less expensive versions using the same resonance free conductor alloy.

But you could also hide your Realities in techflex that you can buy from partexpress. Bend those mofos into shape, it won't hurt em. ;)  Lots of people LOVE their realities.

Congrats on the new Dalis!!!  I hope you will write a little review.
Thanks
