SOLD University 6201 12" alnico coaxial drivers
« on: 30 Apr 2008, 09:45 pm »
I have more speaker drivers than I could build speakers out of in a decade at the rate I am going, so I am thinning the herd to try and concentrate on my top priority projects.  So I have available for sale...

For Sale....
1) 3x University 6201 12" alnico coaxial drivers $250 for all 3 (plus shipping).  Use the third for backup or center channel.  These were being highly recommended by "drlowmu" on AA Hi-eff board.   See pictures below...  They have the big ass coffee can alnico magnets and pot for adjusting the tweeter volume.

Paypal excepted, pm me for address.

I can take pictures.  As far as specs or plans, I don't have any.  I haven't looked exhaustively though.  I was thinking about asking Jeff Medwin (drlowmu) what he suggested as he was familiar with the drivers.  They are basically familially related to Altec 604's, since Altec bought University shortly after these were made and used University's R&D to create the Altec 604, etc.

Are they the greenish ones or the gray ones, stamped frame or cast?

Thanks, Gary

I haven't put them up on ebay yet as I have been too lazy, but they are going up soon.  Just wanted to give folks a chance before they have to fight with bidding on epay.

I still have the universities.  These are apparently great sounding vintage gems.  They just need a box.

I have 3 of these drivers. I'll sell a pair for $150, single for $75 or $210 for all three.

I'd bet these would make an excellent OB project.   :thumb:

I got to use my WT3 for the first time.  So far just free air measurements...

Coax1:

* f(s)= 59.22 Hz
* R(e)= 7.50 Ohms
* Z(max)= 35.81 Ohms
* Q(ms)= 2.961
* Q(es)= 0.785
* Q(ts)= 0.620
* L(e)= 0.35 mH

Coax2:

* f(s)= 59.22 Hz
* R(e)= 7.84 Ohms
* Z(max)= 35.57 Ohms
* Q(ms)= 3.127
* Q(es)= 0.883
* Q(ts)= 0.689
* L(e)= 0.49 mH

Coax3:

* f(s)= 64.60 Hz
* R(e)= 7.63 Ohms
* Z(max)= 31.32 Ohms
* Q(ms)= 2.601
* Q(es)= 0.838
* Q(ts)= 0.634
* L(e)= 0.50 mH

Of course, with an adjustable Lpad, its possible that I didn't have them in the same spot on all three measurements.

If anyone has any interest, pm me and I'll post these on ebay as a buy it now, so you can get 40% off.

I'll do the same on a pair of JBL 2123H's I have ($290 for the pair).
