Next step up from Nuforce SE v2s
« on: 29 Apr 2008, 02:57 pm »
What would be the next step up in terms of musicality and resolution from the Nuforce models? I do have space requirements, small, Id guess 17 inches wide by 1 foot high. The could be Class D but dont have to, though I would like to stick to solid state. I have a Supratek pre with lots of tubes...

Any suggestions? Budget around 5K. Im just trying to get a feel for what is out there, plus please give the amps strengths. Thanks so much.

... is this amp for the Merlin VSM-MX's or are you looking ahead to the SP Continuum 2.5's?  The answers might be very different for these.

The amp will be supplying power to the Continuum 2.5s, which will be my main speakers soon!!!
And I love my Nuforces, so dont crucify me. lol.

Well, Bob used the older Nuforces back at the ranch and liked them pretty well, so you might just let those settle in first.  I think Ted_B tried a pair at some point too.  Ya never know, they may be the berries ;-)

I think Frank has the big Theta Citadels on his C2.5's, though you could probably shoehorn a smaller Theta Dreadnaught 2-ch version in there 1'x17" and well under $5k.  No idea how that would compare to V2's though.  The McCormack DNA-500 is hard to beat in the used market at that price range too.

You might PM Gongos.  He has big Odyssey monos and thought them much better than the V2s on his Revelations.

Mike,

At that price level, you could buy a Aksa Soraya which IMO is the best ss amp I've heard. (though I would like the opportunity to compare it to a pair of monoblocked Bel 1001s).
But prior to that, I'd suggest improving your existing NuForces. Build a pair of Felixs, <$100, and bring the mids and hf, quality wise, in line with your bass.

FWIW,
Paul

While the BELs are great amps, we tried them on Bob's Revelations and it was not a great match for some reason.  Could have been many other factors at play there.  We also tried the Odyssey Mono SE's with better results but didn't compare them to the Nuforce.

The Soraya would be really interesting to hear on them for sure, especially given the great reputation of both SP and Soraya in the bass ranges - wowza!

With my Revelations, the Odyssey's are a big next step.

Yes, I believe those were actually your own speakers we tried my Odysseys on way back when :thumb:

If you are interested in the Mono Extreme SE's, I have a pair I am looking to sell - just PM me.

Sorry for the shameless plug.
