Hi is there a reasonable "economical" way to transform yr collection into digital?

I have read somewhere that self made cd's from yr LP sounds (way) better than the official CD version

No offense, but IMO, you already have the analog version if you have the LP.  Yes, there are different versions of many LP's but the point is why rip the music to a digital format so that you can go through the process of playing it back by means of an inferior format.  I don't see the logic in this. Sorry.

theoretically you are right
but ehhh,,

my cd's thru a heavily modded SB3 sounds already soo good
that I can only imagine how much better the digital version will be if this rumour is true

then i am willing to sacrifice the hassle of the LP ( at least for pop versions, different for acoustical classical orchestra music, not  chamber or small jazz music) for the heavenly friendly convenience of the SB3

As it is now, standard ripped CD although musical are still too far behind the best LP's
but the SB3 opened my eyes ( ehh ears) how close they become. Not close to the the highly mastered audiohile records which even use tube gear, but "standard LP's i have so much of , well only 1500 not so much)

I've put a number of LP's on the CD format. I have some intense software that allows me to cut up to the start point of each song and then do a computer fade at the end. The end result is very near the LP resolution. I think some people want to archive their collection so when they are not critically listening, they can pull out the CD and listen to that, just to save wear and tear on the vinyl.

Wow, really Larry?! There are many vinyl only releases. And digital is convenient. Furthermore, listening to vinyl is a dedicated activity which requires attention. So if someone wants to hear those albus as background music or part of a mixed session, digital allows them to do that.  The OP never said they were going to discard their LPs, just transfer them to another format.

Again, no offense but the concept of "background" music is w/o meaning to me.  If there is music playing, I want to hear it.  I'll strain to hear it.  As close as I can come is to turn the sound off on a (take your choice:baseball, basketball, football) game and listen to music instead of the announcers.

I know I am not alone....I guess I am an active guy and a bit of a multitasker. but I have music on everwhere(background music). computer speakers at work. car stereo, patio stereo, sound in lots of rooms of my small flat. As always....Different strokes (I am 41 BTW). My TT tends to be used a lot in social happenings at my place--though I do have my listening sessions as well.

BACK TO THE ORIGINAL POST....What's the best reasonable way to transfer LP to digital...equip and software?

Kyrill, this is the solution I arrived at, so I built one at the end of last year. It seems to be well designed and is straightforward to build. You can read the kit manual on Jim Hagerman's website. All I have to do now is tune up the old turntable and find the time to do all the ripping.

 I have a lot of vinyl with not enough time to listen to it. I decided long ago that I wanted to put much of it on CD so I could listen to music not available on CD whenever I wanted.

 I went with the CD recorder route and purchased a good quality Marantz Professional recorder a few years back.  This unit is no longer available but there are other alternatives such as the TASCAM unit available from Parts Express.

And it may not, Jim's designs are pretty well thought out for sound quality. Upgrading the caps and resistors may give better results than a ps change, but I would double check any design changes in the Hagerman Technology circle first. I use his Cornet2 phono pre-amp and upgraded some of the caps to Mundorf Silver/Oil and Sonicaps, two popular cap upgrades. If you use the Ripper's phono section, any upgrades to Jim's Bugle phono pre-amp would also work for the Ripper.
