i noticed that with a 12.95 or 14.95 dollar monthly subscription you can listen to music
but ehh the mp3 generation is their target and what do they know of how music can really sound?
BTW  for mp3 quality i think 13 or 15 dollars a month is steep..

Is there an alternative to lossless based (flac) music listening/downloads subscriptions?

I pay $24/qtr and use Rhapsody for previewing thousands of albums and/or cuts in their entirety (rather than 30 sec samples).  I don't use it for sonics, per se.  I love being able to peruse Blue Note, etc and find gems that others recommend.

I agree, MP3's don't cut it. You'd be suprised of the people here on the circle with big "tweaked" sets that are happy with MP3's.       I use Rhapsody for the free 30 tunes a month to listen to oldies from my teen years.

Free sounds good.

It's likely grandfathered from a year ago or so.  I'll check my latest billing.  Edit:  It's called Rhapsody Unlimited and is $32.99/qtr, not $24.  My bad.

Rhapsody is a great way to find new and different music out there.  It has really saved me many wasted purchases when trying to find new Classical music.  It also helped me find out which of the Classical genres I really like.  Quality of the recording is a different story, as listening online, will not really show you how good the disc, album, etc. will sound.

is it possible to use it when living outside US and Canada? Could not find that info in an easy way (faq for instance)

Yup, I use them too.  Granted, the quality isn't great, but I often enjoy listening to background music when not doing critical two channel listening. 

Rhapsody fills a nice gap between listening to music that I don't own, and as others have mentioned, a great way to discover new music.

I run the software through a Slimdevices' Transporter which makes it easy to play with.

Another nice feature is the ability to save albums you like to your favorites, allowing you to access your Rhapsody albums quickly.

normal mp3 must sound really ehh mp3 compared to analogue and lossless ripped cd's on yr system
