The concept of the corner pillow or 8th nerve triangle is that midrange frequencies come into the corner, get their phase screwed up, reflect off sheetrock to sound cold, then come back aimed at your head and amplified by the big horn formed by the walls. The pillows and 8th nerve version with reflector on the front aim to fix the problem, and they work well in that roll, with a small visual footprint.
If you have a sparsely decorated room, you would probably find as Ethan suggests that the midrange reverb is a worse problem than the corner distortions, but can be more challenging to correct when a talented decorator is in the mix, especially if she "likes" the sparse motif.

A plush traditional decor with fabric furniture, rugs, drapes is probably good enough to tame overall reverb, and will make the benefit of treating the corner distortion even more obvious with the other mid freq pollution reduced.
A painted, hard surface DIY triangle would be least conspicuous and work better than your pillows for purifying midrange reflections in the corner, but Bryan's block of solid absorbtion or a full size "Tri-corner" would give improvement over more frequencies. Depends on what your decorator will allow. Congrats on your wedding. In about 15 years you will be laughing at the WAF stories again.
