FREE online live music archive

Just read about this in the letters section of the latest issue of Stereophile. Worth visiting if you have a spare 7 or 8 hours or so. Quite cool. I can't figure out which file type to use to get it to work with iTunes (any suggestions?), but so far I'm enjoying just streaming live shows into the home office.

This is the main page

This is the list of artists with material in the archive

Thanks, Chris. I had heard of that place back when he was trying to catalog a lot of the memorabilia, but I had no idea they had all the live recordings as well. That's fantastic. Thanks for the link. Certainly a lot more notable bands at the vault than in the free archive, but the archive has a few gems from artists who don't mind "tapers" bringing their gear to shows.

Great stuff at Wolfgangs.  Do the downloads sound better than the streaming
stuff?  It sounds like about 32kbs...

Still fun though!

I have been using the LMA for around eight years now.  Its great!  How can you go wrong with EVERY Dead show ever?

Holy cow. Last night, I discovered LMA has a lot of Ryan Adams live shows, and I downloaded this one http://www.archive.org/details/radams2007-06-29.sbd.flac based on the ratings and reviews. I was able to get the tracks into iTunes (*could NOT figure out Winamp for the life of me) and then burned the show onto two CD-Rs. It's an amazing recording and a fantastic performance.
