stop by this weekend for a beer and some tunes

Gentlemen - the BAT VK 60 was delivered yesterday.  Since it arrived before my preamp will be delivered, I had to hook it up to an old Dynaco PAS 4 solid state preamp.  Which, actually, doesn't sound half bad.  I found it in someone's garage about 3 years ago.

Anyway, got the CDP hooked up, and after everything warmed up, started listening to some classical, sounded nice.  As time went on and the amp's tubes really got going, it opened up quite a bit, and I think the preamp may have been a bit rusty at first too, because it seemed to quiet/settle down.  Funny, the power from this amp.  It's rated at 60wpc, but it blows away the Musical Fidelity A5 (250 wpc) hands down, no question about it.  And the low end is absolutely phenominal.  I had no idea I could get such low end from these speakers.  Sounds like there's a freakin' sub hooked up!

I'm sure this will only improve with a better preamp hooked up to it, but for now, it's a lot of fun!  Spent pretty much all day and evening listening and reading.  And with the ball and chain and my daughter out of town until Sunday afternoon I plan on a lot of listening all weekend.

I know it's short notice, but if anyone wants to stop by for a while this afternoon, tonight, tomorrow afternoon or tomorrow evening and check it out, feel free - I have no plans this weekend except to enjoy having the house to myself.  I can provide wine, beer and snacks - Also feel free to bring a tube preamp if you have a spare lying around!

Any takers can email me at brian@vo-pro.com, or give me a buzz at 314-650-9511.  I'm in Parkview, behind the loop in UCity.

Hey Brian.

Wish I could come over.  I have a tube pre that'd be interesting to try on your setup.  Unfortunately, I have plans with the SO today and my son is home from school for the weekend.

Enjoy your time alone listening.  Some other time, I'd love to come over and hear the setup.

Hey Brian, How is that VAC sounding? I wish I could have gotten buy there but just could not make it. I hope it's making some sweet sounds. Maybe in the next several weeks I can drop by for a listen.

Hi Sturgis - it's sounding very, very good.  I spent a good part of the weekend parked in front of it.  And like I said in an earlier post, right now it's paired with a 40 year old Dynaco PAS 4 pre (solid state) - and it sounds really nice.  Not accustomed to this kind of quality from an amp.  Of course, it's my first non-integrated system, so I guess I didn't really know what to expect.  Best I can put it is the individual instruments are clearer - infinitely so - and I thought my last system sounded good!  Not sure if you're into jazz, but to be able to clearly differentiate every instrument in Oliver Nelson's "Stolen Moments" is really cool.  Same with Mingus stuff.  They both layered the horns.  I love that sound/style.  Low end, much bigger and deeper too.

The Juicy Music Blueberry Xtreme is due on Friday.  (www.juicymusicaudio.com)  I have high expectations for that one as well.  Combo should be quite nice.  I'll be sure and post more on the combo when it's up and running.  And again, I'll try and have a gathering at some point too - maybe on the vinyl tour.
