FS: Phillips SACD 1000 (needs repair)

Phillips SACD 1000 for DIY project person. The unit has an issue of freezing up after a period of use - sometimes a half hour or longer. The transport mechanism works fine. Not quite sure what is wrong with it but I think it could be fixed by a handy DIY person. From what I have seen on the web it makes an excellent modified player. I have a modded Sony SACD now so I havent bothered to get this fixed. First $100+shipping takes it. I can send pictures on request.

A knowledgeable board member just informed me that the issue with my player is likely a bad chip set and that the chip is no longer available from Phillips (nice product support guys!!!!). So it seems that the player is off to audio heaven....

Pity, it was a nice universal player for the money and I figured it could be fixed.

Recycle.  Reduce.  Reuse.   True what you've heard about the chips being NLA, and shame on Philips for they *make* the revised chips. . .and for this, I will NEVER buy another Philips product.  TV, DVD, radio, whatever.  The problem wasn't that the SACD1000 broke.  The problem was that they refused to fix it.  Like you said, lack of product support.    That said, some diehard SACD 1000 fan would be happy to have your player for parts. If nothing else, see aplhifi.com. He modifies these and. . .

Alex at APL announced a while back that he would no longer take in players he had not modded to replace the chips.  At that time he was holding back a few chips as insurance for players he had modded, though I don't know the status now.  It is really a shame that Philips did not investigate and implement a fix like Alex's - incredibly irresponsible.  I have a SACD 1000 modded by APL with the complete fix, as does a friend of mine, and they have both operated perfectly and sound wonderful.

I got one also but it's a combo CD player and DAC. Alex modded it for me after I got into SB3 and needed a DAC. Very fine CD player but it is a KILLER DAC SB3 combo.
