That's alright Frank. Based on the folks "reviews" of Mrs. Barber, she sounds like she'd be right up my alley. I've got wide horizons musically speaking and those "weird-kinda-jazzy-doesn't fit into a solid genre" female vocalists are a favorite of mine.

Ummm, thats Ms. Barber.....Unless she went to Canada to get legally married!  I'm another fan as well.  Her lyrics are very pointed and I'm a sucker for good writing.  I really dislike the Mariah Carey types: you know the ones with good voices but nothing to sing about.  Barber, thankfully does not fall into this category.  As many have mentioned her albums may not be easily accessible, but they do grow on you.  And she has something worthwhile to sing about!

Just my tuppence...

Hey Bob,

Remind me, next time we get together you can have all of my Diana Krall and my Patricia Barber CD's (I think I've got 3 or 4 of them). I personally can't stand either of them. In fact I've designated the man cave to be a Barber/Krall Free Zone

Oh absolutely.
Scott's got a rather large manhole. He can fit quite a few people in their at once......including females that sing.

Bob...I....er....well....uh.....no, I did not bid on PB. So what goes around.... :finger:
As I mentioned in another thread in my heyday I backed (keyboards) many female singers ...I'm a huge fan. The most beautiful of all intruments.
Come to think of it I'm a huge fan of females; period.  8)
BTW I have a wish list of over 100 CD's at Amazon (50% female singers) and no, Patricia Barber is not on that list!  :thumb:

Hey!

This is a very interesting thread. :D

Yes, I do have Patricia Barber album and it is on LP vinyl too!

I have to admit that I bought this because I was curious of what the fuss in the audiophile community and in the press was all about?

I have to say the recording is great but as for the music itself? Well, unfortunately not my kind of thing... I find it boring. But that is just me.

So, with that... I haven't play that vinyl for a long time now. It is still on my LP rack in minty condition. Hmmm... maybe I could unload it here.

Take care,
Buddy :thumb:

When red rose had a store in nyc i stopped in to request a quick listen.  They played their system and plugged in cafe blue.  Have to say the only thing more dissapointing then sound (per price) was the CD. Jeez although its subjective i think it pretentious ponderous and well overrated.....i bought a copy just to  verify my findings at home...confirmed...yuck....

but then i again i waited 37 years to see gone with the wind and laughed out loud at that too....guess im just a contrarian....

or someone with taste...

There's no accounting for taste. Many people like Barry Manilow.

This review from Downbeatdoes not share your opinion..

Gentleman, I made aware my passion for female singers ( with a little bit of history) so may I gently suggest alternatives to PB ie: witness what I've been listening to today on the thread "what are you listening to now". A couple of diehard PB fans sent me Emails asking me why the f#%$ I don't like PB, and who do I like.
