« on: 17 Apr 2008, 05:46 am »
Hi
Does anyone have any experience with this DAC? I find a mention of it here and there but couldnt find any user reviews or any comparisions made with this DAC with other equivalent DACs. Any input will be of great help

thanks

Where can you get one from?  They are not in stock anywhere in the states I believe.  I am interested in it as well.

Old thread, but wanted to reply ...

I have one and like it.  I have a full modded Bolder SB3, and using the DAC-5 instead of SB3 straight to the amps is definately an improvement - using the tube output on the DAC gives my system a nice touch of musicality.  But honestly going back and forth between the tube stage on the DAC and SB3 stright, I think DAC is still more detailed and delicate.  Using the Balanced outputs on the DAC gives an extremely detailed and neutral sound, but my system needs a smidge of lushness, so I use the tube out mostly.

I can't remember exactly what I paid for mine, got it from some Ebay seller ... but I think I paid like $250 with $150 shipping.  I can't imagine any better deal than that!

Do they make a 110v version?  Mine is 220v, and I'm using some crappy step-up transformer right now.  I'm having Chris at BPT make me a balanced power station with a 220v stage in addition to the 110v transformer - I imagine that and a decent power cord will make a noticable improvement.

Hi guys, I have just received one of these for John Tucker and Exemplar Audio with Johns full mods.  I will list the mods once I get a list of the work that was done.  I will also relate my thoughts once I have spent some time with it.  MY previous DAC's have been (in order) Bel Canto DAC 2, Ack DAC, Xandu, Audio Logic 34 MXL, Dodson 217 Mk II upgraded to the 218 & the Accustic Arts Mk 4.
All the best, Guy

I recently pre-ordered the DAC-8 after a few recommendations. I'm hoping to get the unit soon and will try to relate my thoughts.

Hey Guy

Did you get the modded DAC-5 back yet? What are your opinions? Any comments on how the standard factory DAC-5 sounded etc? How much did the mods cost?

Thanks
