The transport and passive parts are cheap clones of the real stuff.  I wonder if it really is an upsampling player?

There is a lot more info over at head-fi. I can tell you that I was dissapointed after reading how much of the stuff in this CDP is hyped. I have the 88E CDP and I can tell you that I am not one bit dissapointed in the sound. For the price I still believe its a fantastic value. The mids and overall tone are terriffic. The bass is on the lower side. A few people have reported reliability issues though, mainly with the transport, however one person has managed to replace it by himself by buying an equivalent transport for about $30/-
If you get a chance do listen to it. There are other reviews/user comments over at AA on digital drive

I was leaning toward the CD 66, but Vic at Pacificvalve talked me into the Bada HD-22SE.  This CDP is built like a tank, sounds wonderful using the tube output, and saved me a few bucks over the MHZS.
