Power Question-Is mine dirty?
« on: 15 Apr 2008, 01:30 am »
Last night when my wife turned off the kitchen light, i expernced a significant hiccup to my system which is virtually in the same room.  Kind of like a hashy drop out.  Never happened before. Anyway, is this a sign that ive got hash or gremlins on power to my system. Ive been fighting a sibilence issue over the years despite many a change. Now i wonder if its really a dirty power issue??

As the super asute may recall, Im in l large apt building. my system is housed in a built in wall unit and all the power comes from one ac duplex.  The person who built the wall unit ran an older basic monster pc from the wall and mounted it into the unit. As such, I cant access the duplex to change it out. And believe me, i am opposed to monster products on ethical, legal moral and performance grounds.  My dig front end is a VH audio hot box with slight filtration run from the monster.  So i guess what im asking is if my sibilence problem is a related to this, and given the limitations (cant swap out the monster) is there anything i can try to alleviate it.

thanks in nyc

Much obliged in NYC

Have you tried to replicate the situation and see if it happens again?
If it does...you will know you have a problem, but otherwise its hard to say. It might have just been something of a coincidence with other parts in the building.

Hey!

If you are in NYC... it is not only the air that dirty but you could count on that your AC power is also dirty.  :icon_lol: I'm in Queens area by the way. :D

I think that you are expriencing interference from there. Is the light in your kitchen fluorescent type? If not it is on dimmer? If so you are definitely have some noise interference.

Since you are in large apt you are sharing your line with many others. But maybe you could improve your situation with the kitchen light by try plug in your system in other outlet. Fine out which outlet share the line with which outlet by turning the breaker off and on to see.

This might help a bit. :D But you need o get access to your system power cords  :icon_lol:

Take care,
