HagDAC with CDPRO2M & 6922 buffer
« on: 14 Apr 2008, 06:05 pm »
I tried connecting HagDac with SPDIF input from CD*Pro2M and the output buffer being 6922 (based on A/N design).

Once the transport is on, the RLK becomes 5v, indicating it locks to the incoming signal.

However, i do not get seem to get any output from the Raw output....complete silence..and no noise.

The buffer works fine...as i have tested it with a TDA1541A dac module.

Am i missing any configuration.

For reference these are the connections that i've made.

* Input with 75ohm resitor hooked between IN and GND
* 8,0,-8 power supply
* STP connected to GND with 75ohm resistor
* RAWL, RAWR & GND Connected to output stage.

The voltage measures 5v on the 8415 and 1704...

SPDIF must be 44.1k data.  The reclocker only does that one frequency.  Redbook CD only.  If not, the digital filter goes into mute.  Do you get PLK?  Can you trace signals with a scope?

I tried a redbook CD ...and the SPDIF output from CDPRO2M worked well with the PCM1704 eval board from TI and few other commericial DAC. I know for sure it is 44.1k ..

PLK remains at 0v....i get only RLK

I tried with a simple Pioneer CD player with Redbook. PLK remains @ 0v

I wonder if somehow the board is still in reset.  Can you check /RESET line?  I know board was tested and working, or it would have never left the factory.  So there must be something not quite hooked up right.  Ok, so you did power supplies.  Did you hook it up like the HAGDAC manual?  Is anything external holding down the PLOCK?

PLK is down...RST measures 5V (pin 14 on DF1704). Nothing external is holding down PLK ..

Connections i've made was as per HAGDAC & Chime manual. Following are 11 connections that i've made.

1) +8 for VS+
2) -8 for VS-
3) GND to CND

(Tried +12, - 12 v as well)

4) SPDIF line to IN+
5) SPDIF GND to IN-
6) IN- shorted to GND
7) 75 ohm resistor between IN+ and GND
8) 75 ohm resistor between STP and GND

9) RL out to tube buffer
10) RR out to tube buffer
11) GND To tube buffer

The power supply is a straight forward LM317/337 circuit that worked well with other DAC's that i've tried in it...including the TI Eval board and a DAC based on TDA1541A. I very much doubt it could be the power supply.

I'm sure the board is working...but need to find out what connection is missing.

Can you post a photo?  Hmmm, something is keeping the reclocker from locking.

JH,

You were correct (from your email). Solder on one side of R69 was open, probably a damage due to shipping. Got that soldered and the dac is in business.

I'm surprised that the HagDac sounds so much different from the TI PCM1704 eval board. ..

Thanks for ur support.
