Wadia Ipod Transport VS Squeezebox Duet
« on: 10 Apr 2008, 03:39 am »
Howdy- I just bought a squeezebox duet, but I just found out about the Wadia Ipod Transport,MD Music Direct shows availability April 30th on the Wadia Ipod Transport.
If you had to guess which would sound better the Wadia Ipod Transport with my 160gb Ipod classic loaded with lossless files and connected to my benchmark dac1 ...sound as good or better than my Squeeze box duet sending my lossless music files from my pc hard drive to my benchmark dac1 to my stereo?

The return privelage ends in a few days on the squeezebox. Plus the squeezebox can be very slow when my wife is on the computer.
All I need is a quality sounding ..low cost digital source, other than spinning cd's to feed to my stereo.

Many thanks in advance,
Robert

Robert,

With lossless files you should hear no difference between the Duet and the iPod doc.  I have the Squeezebox 3 and the Benchmark DAC 1 and tunes played through the Squeezebox or directly from my Macbook Pro sound the same.  The output is SPDIF from the Squeezebox or the Wadia dock so to the Benchmark it's all the same. The Benchmark will remove whatever jitter is thrown at it so you should not hear any difference with sources that provide the same resolution and since the Squeezebox and the Wadia are limited to 16 bits/44.1 they are the same.

I do not experience any issues with my wireless network with the Squeezebox and that is with three computers plus the Squeezebox so you may want to look at your router to see if that is the issue on speed.  The other reason I would recommend the Duet is on-line music services like Pandora and internet radio that are available.  Pandora is limited to MP3 resolution but it's a great way to discover music and to hear the music you want without any commercials.

This looks promising. I'll likely buy it at some time.

Managed and corrected power supply, impedance correcting buffer with more appropriate voltage.
$230 +/- ??
