Looking for a new Turntable?
« on: 8 Apr 2008, 07:40 pm »
I just picked up a very nice line of Turntables via a Distributor.

They are called "Acoustic Solid" and from Germany.

They are available the Entry Level through Out of Sight

MSRP is around $2200 complete w/arm and Ortophon cartridge.

I have courtesy pricing for AC members

For other models look here:

Hi Chris,

Thanks for the comment, since I don't have one myself to offer personal opinion on.

Does yours look like this?

Yes almost. Mine is in BMW blue the motor / platter is in matt finish and with a Dynavector 507 MKII arm and the isolation feet are different. Look at my avatar on the left for a rough idea. Everything you see in chrome finish on your picture, mine is in matt. Shiny surfaces on Hi-Fi too me looks too much like they came out of the 70’s  :)

Barry,  You purchased something "without" consulting me?? :nono:

Just kidding

Actually I have had the line available for a while and just today was telling a client about them and thought maybe I should post here.

Many just think of me as a VMPS dealer, and don't know I have many other "support" lines for my clients and customers.

Sorry I missed you on that one.

I didn't know you did Vinyl

My Price list shows at least 14 models at different levels starting at $2199 al the way to $11,500 MSRP.

Only one model shown above yours, so yours must be pretty special.

John, you need to put all your "support" lines out there. I just learned about this TT from you last week in speaking with you, it was like pulling a rabbit from a hat.  :o Need to know about all your wares.  :green:

Well I like it, love the sound that comes out of this turntable. I have not listened to the Royal which is the one above mine did not like the look of the Royal plus the price was that bit higher. In the UK the Royal goes for £7400 and the One to One goes for £4800 the extra money I spent on a top flight arm Dynavector 507 MKII which goes for £3000 in the UK. I think this is one of the best arms you can put on a solid non-suspended turntable.
You guys get a better deal in the US.

Check out the 507 MKII here www.dynavector.com/products/tonearm/e_507mk2.html

What I like is they can be ordered as components, or you can get the whole system TABLE, ARM, CARTRIDGE in a well matched package.

Did I mention "SPECIAL AC PRICING" (Confidential)

I have a client who is going with one and the Jolida TUBE Phono Stage.

I haven't heard the Galibier or the Raven, but I will mention the Acoustic Solid Wood (large platter variant of the AS wood tables). Last time I looked it was about $2500, including electonic motor controller, an RB300 and a HOMC from Ortofon. The quality of this mass loaded table is way out of line with its price. The mounting system limits you to Rega and variants, unless you want to get deeply involved with set-up. Which brings me to my point:

This table is very easy to set up. If you use some of your budget for a Rega cart (admittedly- not everyone's cup of tea) the 3 point mount removes one more variable from the equation. The trade with this table is limited upgradeability/flexibility for easy, predictable, high quality sound.

I currently run an Oracle V, Graham 2.2/Nightingale and the Acoustic Solid through my Aesthetix Rhea. Therefore, side by side comparisons are easy. The "dryish" sound of the Rega Exact cart is easily the biggest distinction between the current alternatives - but the AS sounds awfully good, even next to the much pricier alternative.

If you're a "set it/forget" type (in analogue?) the AS is IMHO a great value.

Good Luck.
