Benchmark DAC 1

Recently there has been a lot of great discussions on dacs-from the bolder mensa di/o to the chris own dack, there are a lot of great options out there. I remember reading awhile ago about another pro audio dac-the benchmark dac 1. here's a review from stereophile:

I recently auditioned the Benchmark Dac 1 in my system and was very impressed with this unit. It excelled in the upper and mid range compaired to the Bel Canto Dac 2. Also compaired it to the MF dac and it was still the better.

You might search the Audio Asylum archives since John Marks, the Stereophile author, posts there and has commented on the Benchmark.

I would like to compare the Benchmark to the Birdland DAC. Those are really the two that interest me. Maybe after the holidays I'll order the two.

Would any of the modders here (dan at modwright or steve at empirical audio) comment on whether they have seen this dac or whether they would be willing to look at it and see if it could be a winner?

info about the benchmark dac sounds interesting. as does info about the mytek stereo 96. same list price, & mytek seems to have enuff confidence in it that they promote listening tests against other dacs - including the benchmark - downloadable from their website...
