Tubes for Clarinet
« on: 7 Apr 2008, 11:04 pm »
I just ordered a Clarinet 1/2 Kit from Jim and am working on ordering the balance of parts to put this kit together.   I am look for some suggestions for reasonably priced tubes to start of with in the Clarinet.  $50 for the set of tubes is about what I am looking to spend for now.  I would like to be able to purchase them all from the same vendor to keep shipping costs down.   I have both a solid state and tube amplifier that the Clarinet will spend time behind.  I have very little experience with tubes, and the different sounds of each.  For now I'm just wanting to get started, I'll experiment with different tubes later maybe.  Any suggestions are welcome.

The Clarinet was built to use a indirectly heated rectifier. Sovtek 5Y3GT will work fine here. I use JJ ecc802 for the 12AU7. This should be within your budget.

Those are the exact tubes I'm using in my Cornet2.  For starters, they ain't bad at all.  I haven't outgrown them after three months and going.  They are available from AES or Parts Connection.
