Ceiling mounted mids for 7.1 Help
« on: 7 Apr 2008, 12:07 am »
I am looking for ceiling mounted mids to go with the AV123 Encore 2-x-ls, 2-x-sls, 1-x-cs and 1-mfw 15 speakers I have just purchased. The room is 19 ft x 11ft x 7.5 H (tv and audio l-c-r in the middle of 19ft wall) and the space behind the drywall is 7.5 inches. Danny do you have a speaker kit or any ideas for speakers that will fit in with these?. If you do have a kit then my build results will be hidden (good thing) from view. I wanted to go with a full setup from GR but because I lack the tools, time and what my results would have looked like I went with AV123. Thanks

I have had a few people build the A/V-1RS kit and mount them to the ceiling aimed at the rear wall. The center of the tweeter needs to be 16" from the rear wall just as it would if it were mounted on the wall aimed at the ceiling.

This works really well and produces a large non-localized sound field just as it would if it were mounted on the wall aimed towards the ceiling.

A down firing speaker mounted in the ceiling has the limitation of sounding like it is playing straight down out of the ceiling and becomes a localized source.

Just to make sure I have it right, A/V-1RS kit will be the middle channel and the x-ls the rear?  Now to find someone to cut the MDF. Thanks Danny

The A/V-1Rs can be used in any of those applications. They can be left, right, or center surrounds and can be wall or ceiling mounted.
