Basic SP 1.7 Processing Question
« on: 6 Apr 2008, 02:56 pm »
Just a question about the processing on the SP1.7

My Set-up:
2 MG1.6's for L/R mains - L/R set to "large"
1 sub receiving a summed L/R full range signal from SP1.7 - sub set to "none"
(ie. sub NOT plugged into the sub output jack from SP1.7)
Processor in Stereo output/listening mode

If a send a 5.1 mix to the SP1.7 with the above setup what happens to the .1 mix?

-discarded?
-downmixed into stereo L/R full range singal?

-or does it depend on if I engage one of the surround matrix modes like ProLogic II Music etc.

Thanks
Alex

Hi,

I will check but I believe it is discarded because the .1 channel is a specific channel in the Mix and you are ignoring it with your setup.

None of the Matrix modes will have a .1 channel. In Matrix modes the only time you get low frequencies from the Sub is when you set your front speakers to Small or you have 'Extra Bass' engaged in the Menu.

AFAIK if you set the Sub to "None" and the L/R fronts to "Large" the SP1.7 will redirect all subwoofer output to the fronts. I haven't tried this recently, but I'm pretty sure it works that way. My speakers are out of action at the moment, but once they're operational I'll test it....

Hi,

My sources tell me that the .1 channel is sent to ANY speaker set to Large if there is NO SUB selected on the menu.

James,

Is that ANY and ALL speakers set to large ? If so I may try it with my system and disconnect my sub.
This would give me three speakers (IB1's) acting as a sub.

Hi Jethro,

Yes it is redirected to all speakers set to large.  The only problem I can see is that you have no control over the level of the .1 - you can not turn it up.

I might not have to turn it up with three drivers. Hopefully I'll get some time to see how close the levels are
this weekend. I'll have to stay awake for this test so I can read the SPL meter.

Hi Jethro,

No I mean that the .1 channel will be spead among the Large speaker(s) so whether you use 1 woofer or 3 the SPL level will be the same.
