Magnet mount question
« on: 5 Apr 2008, 04:37 pm »
I have an old pair of vintage soundcraftsmen 12" co-axials lying around . I think these might work with a simple OB (see T/S measurements I took some while ago).

These drivers have a flange on the rear originally used to mate to the magnet cover. I figure this would work perfectly for a magnet mount (see pic) arrangement.

Question: How does the front of the driver mate to the baffle? In other words does the driver frame touch it, is it fastened via screws, do I use some gasketting foam to decouple them ... ?

I believe folks are leaving a slight air gap, to ensure total distance from the front baffle, in the case of woofers.

For mids/highs or wide range drivers, I think the gasket is the ticket.

have fun!

Just have a look at Linkwitz' Orion: http://www.linkwitzlab.com/orion-rev1.htm and his magnet mount.

Thanks, both of you. That answered my question . Unlike Linkwitz, I don't think I'm going to be gluing my drivers to the mounts. :)
