Jim,

Would it be possible to build the castanet inside a box to keep the tube enclosed?  Really what I'm getting at is how tall a box would you need for the circuit board, tube socket and tube -- all assuming proper ventilation and heat shielding?  Would it fit in a 2U high chassis?

I don't even think 3U will do the job.  You need maybe 5 - 6 inches height to get everything in.
