Amp / Speaker switching with NF9 V2?
« on: 1 Apr 2008, 10:23 pm »
I have a Sony AV amp and a pair of shiny MF9's and one pair of Neat Mystique front speakers

Would it be safe to use a switch such as the Russound AB-2.2 to allow me to toggle between my nuforces for proper 2ch and my Sony for films? I'm worried about the "no load" issue with the NF's - if my amps are powered up but the toggle is set to my AV amp, the signal from the NF's to the speakers is cut, so in effect they would have no load?

PS
Before anyone mentions the AVP series, i'm using a Cairn fully balanced DAC/Pre and don't want to stop using it.

Since we do not have the device in Nuforce;  using an A/B switch between 2 system is usually fine provided that the grounds on the selector (i.e. Russ) are not tied together.

What could be causing problem would be that Russ shorts the Nuforce -ve speaker signal to the -ve speaker signal of your receiver.

This can be easily verified using a multimeter measuring the continuity between the 2 grounds (Nuforce and Receiver speaker black terminals), whether they are tied together or not.  If they are tied together regardless of the A/B switch, then the answer is NO.
