Monoliths arriving Friday...need help
«
on:

Well I finally got the Martin Logan Monoliths and Exos active crossover paid for, and they are being shipped from Michigan(for a rate that you won't believe). They will arrive at my house sometime this Friday(April 4), and I need some help getting them from the truck into my house, no steps involved. I live near the St. Louis airport. Anybody off work that day and feel like doing a little lifting? Hopefully, I'll get a better idea of the delivery time by Thursday.

Jedi35,
I grew up just south of the airport and work about a mile east, know the area well.
I could help (be available) from about 9 till 3 or 3:30 if you need me. Do you need dollies? Or is this a manhandle operation?
Let me know,
Joe

Well. I'm off work Friday, but at this point it looks like you'd have an invasion of GAS guys at your house.
Keep us posted Adrian. I'll be 4th in line to help you if you need me.

Wow, I just saw all the updates!! I didn't get email notification of any additional posts on this thread. Cool, it's nice to know that so much help is available. I did manage to reach a buddy who said that he would come and wait with me, but he tends to be a bit unreliable. It would be nice to have some backups. The first thing I need is info from FedEx on Thursday, and then I'll have a better idea of timing. I'll post again on Thursday.
Thanks,
Adrian

Congrats Adrian!
Steve's right- it should be a party once they're unpacked. I work fairly close to the airport and may be able to help after 5:30 in needed. I'll pm you my cell number as well. I hope all goes well and remember to invite us back once you have them dialed in.

OK, I just spoke to the shipping company, which is AIT not FedEx. I was able to pick the delivery time block, so my idea was the earlier the better for me. That way, I can still go to work in the afternoon. I picked a 9am-12 noon block. I've had so many offers of help, but my place is not that big. The main goal for the morning is just to get the boxes off the truck and into my house, get the speakers out, and shove the boxes somewhere down in my basement. Right now I'll start with the first 2 offers, Steve and Tim. I'll PM you guys my address, and will just keep going down the list if anybody can't make the time block.
I'll leave my Quests in place until the delivery, so we can still do some listening. 2 to 3 guys at a time is about all my space can handle. Once the new speakers get a good enough setup, I'll start having people over in small groups. I have been warned to let the Monoliths warm up to room temperature before hooking them up, and that might take a few hours. I'll have a lot of work to do to get them dialed in, and will eventually be using digital room correction.
The last few days have been quite fun. I just drove home a Volkswagon Jetta that I love, got the hd projector bulb replaced(after being down for a few months), with another new bulb to spare, and will have the Monoliths and external crossover tomorrow. It's Christmas in April!! Once again, thanks for all the offers of help. You guys are the best.

It's about 10:30pm, and it's down to just Tim and me right now. I have a couple of messages out there that haven't been answered yet, so I'd be interested in the first person who responds to this post who can help between 9am and 12 noon. The quickest thing to do is just call my cell number tonight or early tomorrow morning(314-276-8843). I'm thinking that having 3 guys would make sure that things go smoothly. Thanks.

I'm happy to report that the speakers are here and have been unboxed. Hats off to Tim and Joe for their invaluable help. As the speakers didn't appear to be cold or anything, I decided to give them a listen while we were all here. Unfortunately, one of my Krell monoblocks decided to blow at power up, so I'm off right now to have Zaw take a look at it.
The Monoliths have had 2 owners before me, and they still appear to be in mint condition. Really, they look as if they just came from the factory. The crossover will be here in a few days. I'm told that it's brand new, since it was never used. The seller ran jumpers so a single amp could drive them. Later today, I'll connect the jumpers again, and run the Threshold amp full range to get my first taste of Monolith sound in my house.
