I have a pair of L40s with no woofers. Can anyone suggest some woofers comparable to the originals? They sounded awesome at one time, and I'd sure like to get them back to that great sound. Thanks!

JBL 127A anything else is against the law::::::::::::I think one of those white tags are on the cabinet somewhere. You know, remove and be under penalty of The JBL Gods

No luck finding 127a's. If I use another manufacturer, what are the most important specs to look for as far as comparing replacements to the 127a's?

You can use easily found JBL 125A woofers if you can't find 127s. They're the same, except for the dust cap being inverted.

To paraphrase tubes4ever, "accept no substitutes".  Anything else won't sound right, and probably wouldn't meet JBL quality anyway.

I have been hunting for a set, for ages. They do have the rep for being one of JBL's good 2-ways. I did find a set of JBL 4301's. Not a 10" but an 8". I am in the midst of getting them back together. (But I'd still like to find a set of L40's!)

I bought mine new in 1980 or 81. They have always sounded surprisingly good for the cost. I wish they were a bit more efficient, but I use enough power to push them that it's really not an issue. If I ever decide to sell them you'll be the first to know. Best wishes on your hunt. Have you tried AudigoN?
