My wife wanted to go see "Atonement" when it was in the theaters but I always declined to go with her to see it.  I had read the reviews where it was slow and I felt it was probably a chic flick.  Well I have had to endure this movie for the past two hours.  How do you spell s-l-o-w?  Guys, please avoid this film as you would a plague!  Chic flic extrodinare and boring!

I thought it was an excellent movie. I like slow movies. I don't need the car chases and gunfights to keep me stimulated and prefer movies that make me think. Not a chic movie at all! There were a lot of bloody war scenes and a tragic ending.  Frankly I think that most "guy" movies are so formulated that I find them somewhat boring and predictable.

I didn't find it slow at all, and definitely not a chic flick. A great film in the classic sense, I enjoyed it.

Now if you want a chic flick, rent Waitress. Watch it without adding wry comments for extra points.

I can appreciate a deliberately paced movie as much as anyone. A lot of people complained that "Assassination of Jesse James" was too slow, but I was into it for the entire 2.5 hrs w/out any problem. I thought it was an excellent film. Atonement, on the other hand, disappointed me. I rarely turn off movies, but I have to admit I was pretty tempted after the first 20 mins or so. Once he was arrested I became more interested, however. I don't think the film was Oscar worthy by any means, and it's nowhere near as strong as No Country for Old Men, IMO.

I thought it was a beautiful film but shallow.  I don't find Keira Knightly a convincing actress.  Ian McKewan also overrated.
