need help with Outlook email
« on: 28 Mar 2008, 01:30 am »
A few days ago, early in the morning while still sleepy, I opened my email. Had to resize, double clicked quickly and somehow  lost/deleted the emails kept in my inbox. It's not in recycle. Any suggestions on where I might be able to locate it? All of the sent email and folders I created are fine. Found a recovery program called Recuva. The scan for documents showed what could be recovered, but it does not list the time of day when the emails disappeared. Any suggestions appreciated.

If you have a hotmail account you might want to take a look there for copies,,,,,

Do have earthlink and some messages are there, but have cleaned out a lot due to space limitations. Am looking if there is a way to forward them as a group rather than individually

If you are connected to an MS Exchange server and using Outlook 2002 or later, there is a way to recover your deleted items.  Since you are using SMTP or Imap (Earthlink) to be exact, the likely hood of recovering deleted emails are slim to none.

I appreciate the clarification. Could I get your opinion of the Mozilla email program? I don't know anyone who uses it. Is that a user friendly email program you'd recommend or maybe another one? Just need minimal features.
Thanks

I have not used or seen Mozilla email program so I cannot say much about it.

Outlook/Outlook Express to me is simple but I figured you don't want to use Outlook again.  Try Earthlink WebAccess...https://webmail.earthlink.net/wam/login.jsp?redirect=%2Fwam%2Findex.jsp&x=257400475

I use Entourage on Mac for my email, and I know you can rebuild and sometimes repair your email box by holding down option when you start up. Maybe their is something somiliar in Outlook.

I use the Mozilla Thunderbird email application - when outlooked crashed on me a year or two ago I was not able to recover anything.  However the .pst file loaded right into Thunderbird and I have not looked back.  I have found Mozilla products to be very versatile and the other benefit is the huge array of custom plugins/modules.

If you continue with Outlook consider making a backup .pst every so often.

I like this feature in Outlook/Exchange 2003.  "Recover Deleted Items" :)

Great program.  Highly recommended.  Much safer than outlook and easy to use.

Thanks for the comments and help. I Found an old Thunderbird setup I had from March 2007 and installed the program. The program took all of Outlook's folders as of that date. I didn't allow it to be the default program yet. T/Bird seems like a very user friendly program. I have never "imported" any material before. When T/Bird imports it from Outlook to become completely current, will there remain a copy on Outlook or does it all come over? I think you can sense some "concern" on my part about somehow losing more information to cyberspace. Will also check out re account settings........
