Veneering the roundovers on my OB-7 baffles.

Good Afternoon All,

I also participated in Denny’s recent OB-7 ‘flat-pack’ run. I actually picked up three kits as I intend to run them behind an AT screen. I’ll start a specific build thread shortly; however, I have a veneering question.

I’ll be using a 10mil paper-backed veneer of a yet to be decided species.
My question pertains to the roundover on the front baffle; I really don’t want to invest in a vacuum system for three baffles, really poor returns here.

What are some good approaches for veneering baffles with roundovers where a vacuum system is not present?

Regards,

Larry

I have done 3/4" roundovers using both contact cement or titebond and ironing on.  It all depends what type of glue you want to use for the rest of that panel.  Either method will work pretty well.

Hi Larry, the roundovers on the front baffle are not complicated at all so just about any basic method will work just fine. Both contactcement or iron on titebond should pose no problems at all.
The best aspectof using titebond is that if you don't get a good contact, you can always go back and apply heat again to get a good adhesion.

If you want a more basic species, the 3M adhesive backed veneer works excellent and is available in 2' x 8' sheets which does both baffles. They have it at oakwoodveneers.com

Thanks for the prompt replies; I'll pick up a few samples and practice on a 'mock' baffle.

Yes, use 3M adhesive! aa
Actually, I've been using contact cement for years on my veneering, and most of the cabinets I've built have had 3/4" roundovers.  The paper-backed 10-mil veneer has no trouble wrapping around the roundovers.  Use plenty of the cement (or PVA glue, if that's your choice).
