IEC cutout for Cornet2
« on: 23 Mar 2008, 07:49 pm »
Jim,
What is the best way to get this cutout?  Do they make a rectangular punch that would be a perfect fit?  If not, use a regular knockout punch and file the sides?  Use a dremel?

Thanks,
Dan

I use the biggest drill bit I have to start, and get as much out as I can this way.
After that, I use a nibbler to take out the rest.  I usually am not patient enough, and take out a little too much, so you can see it.

But, IEC's are forgiving, they have a plastic edge that hides most of your mistakes.

You can make a pretty bad looking cutout, but it will look fine with the IEC installed.

I do it the hard way.  Small drill bit, perf around the edges with a hundred holes.  Then clippers to break remaining dingleberries.  Middle falls out.  Then use a rough metal file by hand to clean up edge.  It actually can give very good results.
