Promitheus TVC w/ Black Walnut chassis
« on: 23 Mar 2008, 05:17 pm »
I was asked by F-100 to prototype a "nice" case for his Promitheus TVC to replace the stock Merbau case.   I took this modded TVC from him as partial trade for the commission.  I used this single input TVC to prototype the case and liked it so much I acquired a dual input TVC for my personal use.  I'm offering this Black Walnut version for sale.  Listed below are the "mods" I made to the case.  F-100 added better volume controls and wire.

1.  Solid 3/4" American Black Walnut with Walnut inlay miter joints.
2.  Constrained Layer Damping bottom platform 1-1/8" thick = two layers of 1/2" - 9 layer Baltic Birch ply bottom with a layer of Black Hole Pad between the ply layers for damping.
3.  Trannie shells are covered in BHP
4.  3/8" removable gloss black plexiglass top panel.
5.  1/4"-20 inserts tapped into bottom for spikes or feet with common 1/4"-20 thread
6.  Oversized solid wood front panel
7.  Satin finish

Pic of the case before mounting the TVC internals.

I have not yet decided if I will include the stock Ebony knobs or turn new wood inlay knobs so the walnut front plate has not yet been mounted or drilled out.

I have been listening to this preamp for a couple weeks now connected to both my Symphonic Line RG4 and Odyssey Dual Mono.  This preamp disapeares in my system :thumb:

Asking $600 obo  $525.00

It's one of the early version, not sure which rev. I was using this TVC with my Odyssey Extreme mono before upgrading to the latest Reference C-core dual box. IMO, the upgrades especially the volume pot, made a huge improvement over the stock Rev 4.

I am not 100% positive  as Nick has made so many changes it's very difficult to tell exactly and there is no marking on the original case.  It had original silver wire with Teflon tubing which I understand was used only by Nick on Rev3 and above.  It has been replaced with upgrade solid 30 AWG Silver Teflon insulated wire and the standard volume pots were replaced with NOS Mil Spec sealed pots.  When I transfered the internals to the new case I checked all the solder joints, any joints I felt were weak I soldered with Groneberg silver solder.

I am strapped for time but I'm toying with the idea of turning matching spikes and volume knobs for my TVC, I might be willing to do the same for this one if buyer has interest.

The new case measures approx 10" deep and 12" wide x 5" high, face plate is 5" x 14" x 3/4", a little larger that the stock unit and a bit heavier too.

Hello,
I'm interested in getting a TVC back in my system but I need the dual outputs and three ins if at all possible (though two is fine). Can you do that?

I have a nice 2 input + 2 output TVC that I installed into an American Black Cherry chassis.  It's not totally done but could be finished up in a couple days if needed.  It's the second box in on the left side.
