There's nothing quite like the VOT with the BIG,BIG multicellular horns. :thumb:  It was a tube lover's dream; 845, 300B, 45, SET, push pull triode, etc.  I liked the ease of the VOT best, but I think more of the guys liked the 604s in the big bass reflex box.  I had a great time and it was fun to meet some of the new guys. We even got Gavin out for a listen; glad you're back in action.  Chris (MerRev) we have to get those Advents together with mine.  Could be lots of fun!!  Thanks to Willie for hosting a great get together!

One more thought.  Even though each Altec was in a different cabinet and was of different eras, the chance to hear three different applications of Altec 15" and horns was very instructive.  The Valencia upstairs was far more "horn-ish" than either Altec in the basement.  It uses the 800 Hz horn in a smallish lowboy cabinet.  The 604 with the 1.2 Khz horn in a 6 cu. ft tower was so different than the 500 Hz multi-cellular horn in the VOT (of course it should sound different).  It was a real education on the characteristics of each horn and the way its cross-over point modifies the 15" response before it hands off to the horn.  That alone was worth the trip in to Willies.  Willie mentioned that as soon as the 604 cabinets get living room pretty, they're headed upstairs to replace the Valencias.  That will be some parlour system driven by the locomotive amp and a Squeezebox.  Can't wait to hear that combo upstairs.

Willie,  thanks for a great time.  I was a little overwhelmed, the 845 are really something to see and hear.  My favorite was the 845 running the VOT.  Your equipment is always amazing.  I don't really understand the technology and electrical design but I know what I like the looks of and sound.  Very cool!  Good to see old friends and some new faces.  thanks, Alex

Sorry I couldn't make it Willie.  My son is home for the weekend and he ended up hanging at home instead of going out with friends.  Hope to hear the toys another day.

Willie, I just want to let you know that I had a great time :D. It was nice to see the new faces, and the regulars.  I love the sound of the big Altecs. The amount of tube gear that you have is too much. I felt like a crack head who just found the motherload aa. Great sound all around. I love the 845's gotta get me some of those babies. Also I would like to say thanks to your wife for allowing us into her home.

it was nice to catch up with some of the gas gang and meet a few new guys.  Willie- you're in tube heaven over there I'm glad we all got a chance to hear some incredible amps.  The Altec 604's did it for me as they seemed so fast and pure (can't even think about VOT's  :nono:) .  It's not always easy to get a read on an amps particuliar sound but the 845's on the 604's offered quite a bit of slam.  The PP45's were sweet too and had me grinning.  Wow, so many options and not a bad one in the house.  You build some incredible stuff and I'm glad we got a chance to peek into the mad scientists labratory.

Willie,
Thanks for hosting your Altec tasteing. I enjoyed meeting you and members of GAS.
I've read about those systems, there's a lot of loyal fans of the DH triodes out there. I'm glad I finally got to hear them. Very impressive,
Thanks Again,
Joe
