Bryston Warranty with Resale Items
« on: 21 Mar 2008, 04:33 am »
Hi James

Just wondering if one buys a used Bryston and obtains the original bill of sale from the seller who initially purchased it from an authorized dealer is the warranty thus transferred to the new owner?

What if the new transaction is through a legitimate retailer (Brick and Mortar A/V store) but not a Bryston dealer?

Thanks

Alex

Hi Alex,

Yes the warranty is transferred -does not matter if dealer or individual..

Hi James
I just bought a Bryston 3B on eBay: over what years were 3B's produced, and if a warranty claim were ever needed, do I need the original receipt?

Thank you

Richard

Hi -the 3B has been produced since 1974. Would need the serial number to tell you the age and warranty.

I realize this thread is very old, but it does cover my exact question.

If I buy an amp that's only 3 years old but the owner does not have the receipt, am I correct in assuming I will have no warranty?

If the seller can tell you were he bought it from you should be able to get a copy of the bill of sales or better yet, the seller can get it for you from that dealer.

Hi,

Correct - a copy of the original bill of sale is required for warranty to indicate the amplifier was purchased through an authorized dealer.

Well, the seller can tell the new owner the store he bought it from. that dealer should certainly be able to send the new owner, or the original owner a copy of the bill of sale..
And then the new owner would have it.

Personaly i think Bryston should have a registration process where the owner can register his/her item for warranty.
Byston certainly can handle that now?
Then once it is registered, the warranty would follow the item.
The current system depending on some slip of paper is BS, ANYONE can fake a reciept. Just make it up... Find a dealer who has been in business for the time and fake the damn reciept.
Obviously I am no big fan of having to keep some slip of paper or lose TWENTY years of warranty.
And yeah I bought mine from a registered dealer.  My reciept looks like it came from a roadside diner. Nothing special in ANY way.

I don't keep files of receipts either.  One would think that Bryston would keep a record of serial numbers and if those items were shipped to a authorized dealer.  One line registration of the original purchase would also seem to solve the problem.  I personally have not had a problem with the two times that I required service but those items were purchased before the current warranty policy went into effect.  If I dropped dead tonight, at my age a possibility, my wife would be SOL if she wanted to sell my eight pieces of Bryston gear.
