Suggestions for long speaker cable runs.

My brother runs his speakers via thirty foot cables beneath the floor and asked me to suggest wire that would upgrade what he has. The wires he uses now could well be off the wall copper from Radio Shack. It is twenty years old. He uses an NAD receiver of similar vintage. Any ideas? He is cheap and won't spend  lot of money.

Maybe new wire from Radio Shack then? Parts Express has some decent wire that ranges in price.

I use Bluejeanscable, it's belden wire, 10ga. Belden 5T00UP. It's very reasonable. Before all the boutique cables, Belden was considered one of the best, and many of us still think it is.

For a cost-conscious person needing 30 feet, definitely Blue Jeans Cable:

Try this: http://www.6moons.com/audioreviews/whitelightning/moonshine.html just tin it and connect it bare. Less than $15 and it sounds darn good.

i recently bought river cable and have been more than pleased not by their amazing performance, but by their ridiculous low prices.  i sold speaker cables that costed thousands of dollars and went with the river flexygy and their performance superceeds the cables i had before... that plus it only set me back a few hundred dollars for 6m runs.

I once read a thread where different gauges were shown over long runs.  It showed their capacitance and/or resistance or whatever.  What I remember is that for long runs like this you should stay with 12 ga. cables.

Stay away from the cheap bi-colored cable (gold and silver colored wires).

Thanks for the suggestion Les.

I'm currently building some rears that I estimate will need about 35feet for to get them under the floor and back up to where they will be on the wall.

The white lightning solution is perfect.
