Cleaning OUt Tube Cache
« on: 17 Mar 2008, 05:46 am »
Time to clean out some misc tubes. A Rowland amplifier has convinced me thhat I won't be returing to tubes anytime soon. There are some interesting things here. All tubes have light use, and often were just rolled for to hear thier sonic flavor. Some tubes boxes are in less than pristine condition. Some have white boxes only. I bought these tubes to listen to, not for an investment. The first number is the quanity of the tube available. Ok here it goes

6- Sylvania 8417. Rare out of production power tube. These tubes have no hours on them. Just ran them through a basic tube tester, and all test extremely strong. Current NOS tubes sell for $65 each. Sell for $20 each.

12au7
2- RFT 12au7. Only a few hours use, my preferred tube of this type. Excellent German tube. $15 each

1-Ge 12au7
1-Sylvania 12au7 little use. $8

1-Telefunken 12au7 little use, but logo has worn mostly off $8

6922 & variants

4- Edicron 7DJ8 My back up set of pre-amp tubes. Have maybe a couple of hundred hours of use. The best sounding 6922 variant I have encountered. Sweet mids, even tonal balance, excellent imaging. One of my favorites, currently selling for $25 to $35 each. $10 each

2-Tungsram 6922 Just rolled them to get a feel for thier sound. nice tube. White boxes. Upscale sells for $140 each. $50 each

6-Older Sovtek 6922. Tough markings to read. Havent logged any hours to speak of on them. Only rolled them to get a feel for their sonics. Good respectable sounding tube. $5 each

4- Sovtek 6922. No hours placed on these. $5 each

2-Audible Illusions 6DJ8 Handpicked Sovtek. Minimimal hours. Were a set of back ups at one time. $8 each

MISC.

3-RCA 12ax7a Few hours put on these. Always was a fan of RCA 12ax7 tubes, sweet sounding and nicely detailed. Factory packing. Bought as NOS, used them for about 3 months, between 100 and 200 hours. Lots of hours left in these. Tube Depot gets $$150 each for these. Sell for $40 each

2-EH Gold Pin 12BH7. One of the better 12BH7 I ever encountered. These were my back ups. No hours to speak of. $10 each

2-GE 5963. No hours on them $8 each

5687 1 each: RCA Tungsol GE Minimal hours on them. $8 each

Kind of surprised the Tungsram 6922 and RCA 12ax7a are still around. Remember things a bit more clearly now. Obtained the Tungsram from a good friend of mine as partial payment for some gear. Never put any hours on them, except to give them a quick listen to. Has a pair of Siemens Gold Pin 6922 tubes for my Bottlehard Foreplay. That was the best sounding tube for the unit, but the Tungsram sounded excellent too.

The RCA 12ax7a was my favorite tube for this category. Liked it better than Amprex,Mullard, or Telefunkens. Good bang for the buck. Graceful and detailed, yet not splashy in the higher registers. The tube of choice for my Quicksilver Full Function pre-amp and Silver 90 amplifiers.

Just uncovered a single Sylvania 7308 with no hours on it. $10. A pair of Sovtek 5v4c. Used them for 3 months in an AES SE-811. Lots of hours left. No boxes. $5 each. A single RCA 12au7 cleartop. Has hours on it, there is a dark spot on the side of the tube. Tests strong. These were always highly regarded, and getting harder to find. $10.

Updating the tube list. Look at earlier posts for price and description of individual tubes. The Tungsram 6922 and RAC 12ax7a are the desirable tubes from this list.

2- Tungsram 6922
3- RCA 12ax7a
2-GE 5963
2 ARS Electronics selected 6922
1 each 12au7 GE,Sylvania,RCA cleartop
1 each 5687 RCA, Tungsol, GE
2 Sovtek 5v4c

Considering the price asked for by the vintage tube sellers the Tungsram and RCA are quite  a bargain. Tubes from this eara are becoming scare, and the price is escalating.

RCA 12ax7a and RCA 12au7 are sold.

2 Tungsram 6922 still left. These have been rolled to evaluate sonics and then put away. Basically no hours, white box. These are highly regarded, and aint getting any cheaper. These are a good deal.

1 each 5687 Tungsol, RCA, GE

2 GE 5963

1 each 12au7 GE Sylvania

2 ARS selected 6922

The lot of 5687 tubes are sold.

For those interested the 5963 GE tubes are a military spec 12au7 substitute. Factory boxes, no hours to speak of on them.

The pair of Tungsram 6922 are still available. These were a matched pair. No hours. White box. Tube code of 5M

Hi -

Do you still have the Tungsrams available? Does the label say 6922 or E88cc? Thanks.

If the 6922 are still available what is the price?

If RPM doesn't take them I might be interested.

Thanks
