Can't believe I missed out on this announcement. I have been so busy with the new job that I have been absent from the net for a while.
Hope everyone has a great time. The folks are coming in this weekend so I am sort of tied up. But at least with the new job I have every other weekend off so I should be able to attend a few more events this year! Have fun everyone,  I will be longing for some tunes!!!!

We're just going to hang out for a while.  Not too much in the "new equipment" department, but Scott has that DAC707 USB dac and I've got the new headphone setup if anybody wants to be anti-social.  Hope you can start making it out every once in a while.  See you soon.

Thanks for coming out west for our mini-GAS session.  Alexstl and Scott F. came over and Ichinichi was going to come out, but I didn't send him any phone numbers. :duh: (GASsers that have been to my place know you can't find me unless you call and I come down to let you in)  We had the Innersound Eros running and I started Alex off with "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" sung by Israel Kamakawiwo'ole.  I think Alex said "It's like God is talking to me"  Well, I did have the volume up pretty loud to emphasize the Is' breathing in the intro, but it was pretty cool. We just sat around an listened to some Cohen, Chris Isaak, Jackson Browne etc.  Scott brought his SuperDac 707 over and we ran it from his laptop with the approved "audiophile" 10 foot USB cable.  Fortunately, it isn't as good as my Droplet 5.0 cd player. Scott tweaked the response with the on-board equalizer and things were better.  That little dac is a perfect, fun $100 dac for a desktop computer system.  And it looks cool, too.
Later we fired up the Abbys and the Yamamoto, but they need about a half hour to cook before sounding good, so that was a real different sound than the big Eros.  After Alex left, I fired up the Eros again, but in a 7 foot equilateral triangle listening distance and we used the Yamamoto A-09 driving the panels (probably the only electrostat that could be driven by a 300B SET amp???) That got Scott's attention.  Top highs rolled off a bit, but if you want texture, timbre and the world's biggest headphones experience, you just have to make a trip out to hear this. :thumb:
Thanks for coming out and I had a great time telling stories (SteveK, remind me to tell you my Magneplanar story; you'll faint when you hear it) and just listening to vinyl, cds and wav. files.  Doesn't get better than that.  See all you guys soon!

Mark,

Thanks for having us over. The Innersounds sounded great, especially when we were driving them with the Yammie. Even though (as you mentioned) the highs were a bit rolled, it was so much more engaging than the Innersound amp. I really liked that sound a lot. Considering, as you mentioned, you can pick a pair of these up for $1500 on Agon with the amp and crossover, this would make somebody one heck of a fine sounding system for not much bucks. Thats a far cry from their original $20k price tag.

I'll have to mess around with the SuperDac Pro to see if I can't tame that midrange a bit. Maybe a better power supply (I was using a cheap wall wart) and a custom USB cable might do the trick. Hmmm, I wonder how the LAN connection sounds

Thanks for coming out.  I have really missed seeing the GAS gang and just talking about audio and listening to music. Along the lines we were discussing last night, I'm running the Abbys as the mid/tweeter and the Eros bass unit right now.  That's kinda cool too.  Makes me wonder about a drop-in plate for the Abbys using the DX55!  Might be an interesting option as long as you weren't asking the Lowther to play under 360 Hz.  I'll have to think about that one as a way to keep the Abbys, but step up the resolution over the Fostex driver.     See you soon.

So there I was driving west on 70 to Mark’s house to hear his Abbeys, like mine, with a subwoofer which I don’ have, and his much better CD player, amp, preamp, cables, wires, power conditioner, well in fact better everything.  I have wanted to go West in search of the Abbey audiophile holy grail for a few years but every time there was a get together in Wright City I was out of town, sick or had family events, so tonight was the night.

I thought I was going to Blackmore’s hi fi heaven, to hear the Abbeys but in fact I had a religious experience hearing the Innersound Eros speaker and amplifier system!  When Mark put on Israel singing, it was like God was in front of me singing.  Now I don’t mean a man sized God standing at a mike with a soundstage the size of a room, no I mean a God sized God and that whole side of the building was his mouth and he was singing, whispering and breathing to me, right in front of him.   To say the least I was impressed!

The rest of the evening was quite wonderful and I did get to hear the Abbeys.  Mark was a most excellent host, he lives in a cool place and Scott brought good toys and tunes as well but I will never forget the first ten minutes listening to God/Israel sing to me in the sweetest spot ever. For those of you who have not heard, you need to make the pilgrimage.     Thank you Mark, Alex

It was really unfair to the Abbys to play them cold after the Innersounds.  They really need to played every day and mine had been sitting for a month. Sort of a jarring comparison.  You need to come back sometime and hear the Eros with the Yamamoto in nearfield.    The images really stand out and you feel like you're looking into the recording space.  Very cool.  Thanks for the kind words and come out again to hear them in the nearfield.  See you soon.

Hey, I really miss the Illinois guys.  When are you guys coming over to play????  We'll take up a collection to help with gas money.  :(  I'm still listening the that little Sophia Baby you worked on at Scott's.  Still sounds great.  It's good to hear from you and I have some Black Bush Irish Whiskey waiting for you to sample if you make the trip out west.  Nice score on the used vinyl. Hope you saved some for the rest of us.
