i am very frustrated right now and wanted some advice from the general community. if the person this is about is out there it is not my intention to flame or criticize, i will use no names. i just want to know how others would handle this situation.
i just sold (after only 3 days) online an inexpensive chinese tube amp for around $600. it was only a few months old and in like new condition. i packaged it in the original packaging which was very elaborate and damn near bullet proof, insured it for the full amount and sent it out. after online tracking said that the person had received it, i emailed the buyer asking him if everything was ok. he had a few comments about the packaging (the post office beat up the outside of the boxes some and stated that a box of NOS tubes i had laid on top of one of the amps rubbed some yellow color from the box on one of the transformers. stupid of me. i asked him if it cleaned up ok with an alcohol pad and never heard another word about it.) but seemed to indicate that everything was basically fine. he said he would try them out, asking if he could run his cd player directly into them. i said yes he could. the next email i received from him was that he "did not want them". he said the pots were "noisy" in his system and wanted a refund. i repeatedly asked him if he thought they were damaged in any way and he said no, he just seemed to indicate he didn't like them.
i was selling the amps because my family needs some extra money right now. it would be very difficult for me to come up with the money to refund him. i have indicated to him that i would be happy to pay for any repairs that are needed if the amps are damaged. i also suggested to him that he should just relist them on the online service i used. the amps have been glowingly reviewed in 6moons, stereo times, etc. the "noisy pots" are Alps. they sounded wonderful in my system and the manufacturer used to brag on ebay that they had NEVER had a bad response from a customer and even put every customer feedback response online for viewing.
am i in the wrong here? i have also bought things online that didn't work out for me/i did not like, but i never thought that was the seller's responsibility. what do you guys think? thanx for reading.
