Help finding 1" MDF
« on: 3 Mar 2008, 09:05 pm »
Hello,

It looks like I am going to try to assemble a pair of loudspeaker cabinets with the help of my stepfather.

Can anyone tell me where to purchase 1" MDF in 4x8 sheets.

I checked HD, Lowes, and a local lumber yard and none of them carry it.

Any advice?

I am in Troy, MI (Southeast).

Thanks,

Nick

Try your Yellow Pages for a hardwood supplier. They'll probably carry a better quality product too. Aroud here at least, the HD stuff is rather poor.

In all of NYC I could only find one supplier, and he was also one of the two hardwood suppliers in the entire city.

What speakers are you building?

Usually one just glues up two 1/2 pieces.  The bond is even stronger than the MDF itself.   I wouldn't get too carried away with trying to find 1" mdf.

You can get 1" MDF stair treads (4' lengths IIRC) at your local Lowe's or HD.  Not exactly cheap, but handy....especially if you don't have a pickup truck or you're afraid of tweaking your back.
